Since I began working at the Hippodrome back in 2003 John was a very familiar face. Often times while waiting to open the doors before a show he would tell me stories about other performances he had seen at our theatre. He had seen many shows multiple times and would tell me about some of the flukes that would occur onstage and whether or not the performers successfully covered them up. He had a story for everything, and the telling of them was always pleasant to listen to. It reminded me of listening to stories on the radio or This American Life. What wonderful man he was!

I love the idea of film series or film festivals, say, a Hitchcock film festival or maybe Powell & Pressburger. Movies that don't generally come to Waco would be a draw as well. For instance,in 2002 the movie, Possession, did not show here and I refused to drive to Dallas or Austin but wouldn't it be great if the Hippodrome put films like that in the lineup. Keep up the good work!

There's some chatter that you might be showing the zombie movie Risen the Movie which was filmed here. If this is so, I will be buying lots of tickets for family and friends as my husband was an extra as were many other people in Waco. What a fun time this would be!

Yeah, we were pretty upset about the skip as well! The DVD was provided by the company who licenses the rights to show it, and they ensure that nothing like that is supposed to happen, so you can imagine that I'm hashing it out with them. Rest assured, we will show Casablanca again, and it will be a Blu-Ray version that we're purchasing specially for the theatre! Hope to see you again soon!

My husband and I enjoyed the Saturday, 6 p.m. showing of Casablanca but the DVD had some technical difficulties. It sort of froze; then when it started back, it had skipped the whole cafe scene in which Rick tells his plans and orders the Frenchman to call the airport but the Frenchman calls the German major instead. The DVD jumped straight to the airport scene, which didn't make nearly as much sense without that cafe set-up scene. I felt sorry for the young people in front of me who had never seen it before because the ending loses a lot of its impact without the set-up scene.

Thanks Trey, we definitely want to offer a variety outside of what is locally available and that can even include some of those "limited releases" that you normally have to drive to far away cities to enjoy.

I thought the showing of Casablanca was incredible. What a great idea to utilize the Historic Hippodrome as a medium for people to reconnect with iconic works such as Casablanca. Being able to see it on the silver screen offered a perspective that none of my generation has had for this great film. Great Job WPAC, I can't wait for the next opportunity!
